Ohio Boater's Education Course

Barberton Parks and Recreation offers several options for the NASBLA approved Ohio Boater's Education Course required for Ohio boaters born on or after January 1st, 1982. Classes include material such as basic practice, laws, navigation, and water sport safety. Registration must be done in advance. Please call 330-861-7135, or register online here.

Options include:

IN HOME STUDY- DROP IN: Have materials sent directly to your house, study at your own pace and complete the 100 question exam at home.  Bring your completed exam by our office during our hours of operation to be scored and verified by an instructor, and submitted to ODNR. (Free)     Office Hours: Monday through Thursday.: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.;  Friday.: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

MODIFIED CLASS & EXAM- Approximately 2 HOURS: Receive materials at home and study on your own time. Join us for a scheduled time slot to review materials and answer any questions during the first hour, then and take the exam with a certified instructor during the second scheduled hour. $5 Course fee.

STANDARD CLASSROOM- Approximately 8 HOURS: Usually held once a month on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., the standard classroom course is taught by Certified OBEC Instructors and covers all materials on the Boating Exam. Take the Boating exam the same day. Fee is $10 for 18 and above, no fee for ages 17 and under.
2023 DATES: June 6-6-8 pm, June 8-6-8 pm & June 10-9 am-1:30 pm

Payment is due at the start of the class. Cash or Check made out to the City of Barberton is accepted.
