Building Commissioner
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Building Commissioner. This unclassified position reports directly to the Director of Public Service and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. The Building Commissioner manages the operations and personnel of the City’s Building Department to ensure compliance with state and local code; reviews construction plans in order to ensure compliance with applicable codes; performs field inspections in order to ensure compliance with building, property and zoning codes.
Compensation based on qualifications and experience: Salary $67,507.58 – $97,069.20
The ideal candidate will have ten (10) years experience in a certified Building Department as Chief Building Inspector or Building Official and possess a Class I State Building Official Certification and Class III State Building Inspector Certification. Candidate must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License, and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Engineer
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Engineer. This unclassified position reports directly to the Director of Public Service. This is a responsible technical and administrative position consisting of directing the activities of the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Service, the development and supervision of public works projects and supervision of all operations and activities of the City Engineer’s office.
The ideal candidate shall have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus considerable experience in the practice of civil engineering, including experience in municipal engineering. Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying as applied to the development, construction and maintenance of Engineering projects; the public work interrelationships of subdivisions, utilities and street systems, storm water; the principles and practices of public works administration.
2025 Pay Range: $74,647.51 – $111,063.66
