Barberton's History
Founded by industrialist entrepreneur O.C. Barber In 1891, Barberton was located along railroad lines, the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio Canal. It grew into a robust manufacturing town so quickly that it earned the “Magic City” nickname that remains to this day. Our history is built upon a legacy of business, manufacturing, renowned architecture, revolutionary agricultural practices and community pride. That same spirit of hard work, community and entrepreneurial spirit thrives today.

The Summit County Fiscal Office will host a 2026 Property Value Meeting in Barberton on Monday, August 17, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Barberton Active Adult Center (500 W. Hopocan Ave.).
