Barberton's History
Founded by industrialist entrepreneur O.C. Barber In 1891, Barberton was located along railroad lines, the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio Canal. It grew into a robust manufacturing town so quickly that it earned the “Magic City” nickname that remains to this day. Our history is built upon a legacy of business, manufacturing, renowned architecture, revolutionary agricultural practices and community pride. That same spirit of hard work, community and entrepreneurial spirit thrives today.

Time is running out to register for the Barberton Parks & Recreation Department's Sweetheart Dance on Thursday, February 5th from 6:00–7:30 PM! This special evening is the perfect opportunity for parents, grandparents, or guardians to enjoy quality time with their child ages 4–10.

Clear a 3‑foot radius around fire hydrants and keep a path open from the street so crews can act fast during a snow emergency.

Your safety and the safety of our drivers is our top priority. Due to the recent winter storm and hazardous driving conditions, all routes scheduled for the week of 1/26 through 1/30 will be delayed by one day.
This delay allows cities and townships time to clear roads and improve access so our team can safely complete service.
What to know:
• Please place items at your regular pickup location
• Ensure carts and items are accessible and not blocked by ice or snow
• Kimble Landfill, Transfer Stations, and Customer Service will be closed on Monday, 1/26
• We expect to resume normal operations on Tuesday, 1/27

Barberton Municipal Building Closed January 26, 2026
Due to the hazardous weather conditions and the Winter Storm Warning in effect, the Barberton Municipal Building will be closed on Monday, January 26th. This decision has been made to ensure the safety of City employees and the public.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Barberton Police, Fire, EMS, Street Department and Utilities Department, for their continued service and commitment to keeping our community safe and supported throughout the storm.
