Barberton's History
Founded by industrialist entrepreneur O.C. Barber In 1891, Barberton was located along railroad lines, the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio Canal. It grew into a robust manufacturing town so quickly that it earned the “Magic City” nickname that remains to this day. Our history is built upon a legacy of business, manufacturing, renowned architecture, revolutionary agricultural practices and community pride. That same spirit of hard work, community and entrepreneurial spirit thrives today.

Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker, PE, PS would like to alert residents and motorists of an upcoming two day closure of Hudson Run Road starting Wednesday, November 12th, 2025. This will be a daytime closure from 8:00am - 3:30pm. The section of Hudson Run Road being closed is located west of 2nd Street SW. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained. This closure is due to bridge deck repairs.
The detour route involves 2nd Street SW, Wooster Rd, and Hudson Run Rd. All work is subject to inclement weather.

This month, Change for Change will be held at the Green Diamond Grille & Pub with proceeds raised benefitting the K. Jack Greynolds Memorial Classic. The Greynolds Classic uses proceeds raised from the tournament to benefit stroke awareness programs and Barberton youth programs through the Lake Anna YMCA, Magic City Kiwanis, Barberton Public Schools, and the Larry Bidlingmyer Outdoor Education Fund.
Change for Change is sponsored by the City of Barberton and Mayor William B. Judge. Each month this fundraiser is held on behalf of a local non-profit and is designed to raise awareness of the group as well as collect donations for their cause.
